Country Lodge - Self Catering Chalets

Entrance to the Self Catering Unit Complex

History

Our Self Catering Unit complex is also a renovation of the original homestead on a small holding plot that now forms part of the larger Nimeng ranch.  Originally, this homestead was a construction of three independent thatch-roof rondavels that were, at a later stage, inter-connected with in-between "walk-through" rooms.

Architecture

We were able to convert this old "rondavel-like" building structure, with its limitations, into three very attractive and comfortable Self Catering Units (SCUs). We also converted the remains of another close by building into a laundry complex with two separate outdoor bedrooms. In addition, we also build a loose standing bathroom complex for the occupants of the outdoor bedrooms.

Atmosphere

Each of the three SCUs and the two outdoor bedrooms has the name of an indigenous animal species that is stocked on the ranch. The interior decoration of each SCU and outdoor bedroom represents the natural colours of the selected animal.

Facilities

Two of the SCUs named Leopard and Giraffe, have one double-bed bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, and a kitchenette/dining room-lounge combo. The third SCU, named Zebra, has one double-bed bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a spare bedroom with two single beds. This unit also has a kitchenette and a separate lounge/dining room combo. All the SCU bedrooms and kitchenettes are fully equipped with linen, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.  The SCUs are air-conditioned and have their own outdoor "braai" facility.

The two “stand-alone” bedrooms are furnished with two single beds. These bedrooms are ideal for occupying the teenage children or older children in a family. Occupants of these bedrooms have access to "next door" shower and bathroom.

Other facilities of this accommodation complex include a communal lapa with outdoor kitchen and dining table facilities. Attached hereto, is a large boma for an unforgettable communal camp fire "braai".

The complex also has a communal lounge/TV room by the name of "The Sunset Lounge" with a flat-screen TV set and "pop-up" bar where visitors can watch their favourite sport, news, or other DSTV programme.

Environment

In the enclosed garden of this complex we have a tame Impala family. They often invite themselves to the leisure activities of guests in the lapa and boma. Among many other memory making opportunities, close contact with these animals eating your snacks and sipping your expensive whisky, is indeed a very special Nimeng experience.
