Bush Camp

Bush Camp view of the Soutpansberg

A third old farm house on another one of the original farms that is now part of the larger Nimeng ranch has been comfortably developed into a “bush camp” homestead. Hunters and eco-tourists who need a total break from "first-world" comforts and lifestyles and the hassles and dazzles of rat-race living, will absolutely adore this venue.

Don't opportunities to experience a stay in this rustic old fashioned house in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the animal kingdom on your doorstep, but not too far from somewhere for a bread, booze or a packet of smokes!

We were able to convert this old building structure, with its limitations, into three very comfortable private bedrooms. The original large enclosed veranda of the house was converted into a six-berth dormitory and a large open veranda was attached to the front side of the house where occupants can just sit and relax.

A striking feature of this venue is boma with en-suite kitchen.

A new outdoor building with unobstructed views of the Soutpansberg mountain and bushveld surroundings provides separate shower and toilet facilities for men and women.

Hot water is generated with a traditional bushveld geyser called a “donkey.” Lighting is provided by 12 volt batteries that invert voltage from 12 V to 230 V. Economic LED bulbs are used to ensure long range illumination periods between battery charges.  Refrigeration and freezer is powered by LP gas.

The design of this facility promises to become the most popular and major memory making venues on the ranch.

Each of the bedrooms has two single beds with comfortable mattresses, a grooming vanity and a wardrobe. The large closed veranda has six bunker beds with comfortable mattresses and a separate wardrobe for each resident.

The kitchen is spacious with two built-in cupboards. These cupboards are stocked with cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and other basic utensils for serving twelve residents. The kitchen has a gas operated four plate stove, fridge and freezer for the storage of perishables, cold water, cool drinks and booze. The kitchen also has a large service window that opens onto the boma. It can comfortably be used as a bar counter.

The stone wall boma has a stone-built fire circle , fire tools, a cold water tap, a large service slab and a hip-height concrete-on-stone service table.
